Best NRFI Bet Today:

Rationale: The Blue Jays walked off New York on Monday night, grabbing the victory despite the Yankees having won 11 of 13 games coming in. Toronto holds a comfortable 3-game lead in the AL Wild Card race but still hopes to top their rivals and prevent Yankees slugger Aaron Judge from making history in their house.

Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios surrendered three first-inning runs his last time out, which snapped a nine-game streak without allowing a run in the opening frame. Judge enters this contest with one homer this season off Berrios and is still one shy of Roger Maris’ AL record of 61.

Yankees starter Jameson Taillon sports a 3.90 ERA for the season but has been even better against Toronto, posting a 2.67 ERA over five starts in 2022. He’s given up 14 first innings runs over 30 starts but none over his last seven. The effectiveness of these two starts of late makes this a best NRFI bet for today.

Best NRFI/YRFI Bet Today:

Rationale: The New York Mets hold a slim 1-game lead in the NL East over the Atlanta Braves and need a win against Miami to maintain that advantage. The good news for New York is they’re 12-5 versus the Marlins in 2022 and have dominated Miami’s starter, Pablo Lopez. The Mets have roughed up Lopez in his four starts versus the club, plating 22 runs over 16.2 innings (11.34 ERA).

Although the Marlins enter with the league’s lowest first-inning runs-per-game average (0.27) and have seen first-inning runs in a league-low 39.8 percent of their games, New York seems to have Lopez’s number, making this best YRFI bet an excellent value play.

Lopez has surrendered 19 first-inning runs over 30 starts this season, and the Mets have scored first-inning runs against him in two of their four times facing him in 2022. Mets starter Carlos Carrasco has allowed 14 first-inning runs in 27 starts this season, and he did give up one in the opening frame in his last start against Miami.
