Back Big Time Offenses Or Lose Your Money - NFL Week 9 Picks

As the 2022 season pushes into its second half, contenders and pretenders have started to separate themselves in the standings. NFL Week 9 picks zero in on three pivotal conference clashes pitting rivals and winning teams against one another.

NFL Week 9 Picks – Recommended Bets

Conference Clashes Characterize NFL Week 9 Picks

NFL Week 9 picks up following a topsy-turvy slate of games last week, where favorites covered eight of the 15 games. That’s a better percentage than they’ve had most of the season, as underdogs still sport a 67-52-3 mark against the spread this season. Scoring was up around the league, too, which is notable considering the dominant run the under has been on through the season’s first half.

Bettors making NFL Week 9 picks will see a limited slate of games to select from, as a season-high six teams are on their bye week. Unlikely division leaders in Atlanta and Seattle have the chance to crash the postseason party, but backing big-time offenses seem like the play for most NFL picks in Week 9.

Buffalo Bills vs New York Jets Picks

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets: Sunday, November 6 at 1 pm EST on CBS

One of the surprise starts of the season belongs to the New York Jets (5-3, 5-3 ATS). Gang Green fell back to earth last week, dropping their Week 8 contest to the New England Patriots 22-17. The Jets saw second-year signal caller Zach Wilson throw three interceptions in the loss and managed just 51 rushing yards one week after losing star rookie running back for the season. Injuries continue to plague New York, especially along the offensive line, which doesn’t bode well for this matchup with the Bills

Buffalo (6-1, 4-2-1) maintained their perch atop conference standings with a 27-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. Although the Bills couldn’t cover the 10.5-point spread as a home favorite, Buffalo remained in control throughout that contest.

New York’s inability to run the ball behind a battered offensive line with their backup running backs put the Patriots game in Wilson’s hands. Although Wilson threw for a career-high 355 passing yards, he completed less than 50 percent of his passes. He’s now tasked with facing a Bills defense that leads the league in interceptions (11) with a pass rush that’s registered 21 sacks (9th-most).

Buffalo’s offense stands among the best in the league and will be the biggest challenge thus far for the Jets’ young defense. The Bills scored 27 points on Green Bay last week and eased off the throttle in the second half. A similar game plan could play out here, putting the Bills among the best NFL picks in Week 9.

The Bills scored only three points in the second half last week, which allowed a late back-door cover of the 10.5-point spread by the Packers. Despite that, Buffalo remains 3-1 against the spread in their last four games when favored by double-digits. That includes covering as 16-point favorites against the Jets in the previous matchup between these clubs. What’s more, the favorite is 4-1 against the spread in the last five games in this series.

Considering the strength of Buffalo’s defense and the turnover-prone nature of Zach Wilson’s play at quarterback for the Jets, the Under also seems like a safe play for NFL Week 9 picks. The Under has hit in each of the Bills’ last five games and in three straight for New York. The Under is 4-0 in Buffalo’s last four road games as well.

Seattle Seahawks vs Arizona Cardinals Picks

Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals: Sunday, November 6 at 4:05 pm EST on FOX

The Seattle Seahawks (5-3, 5-3 ATS) surprisingly find themselves atop the NFC West at the halfway point of the 2022 NFL season. This stands among the most unlikely developments among NFL picks in week 9 and beyond. That’s probably why bettors still see Seattle’s NFC West odds at +350 at PointsBet, trailing the 4-4 San Francisco 49ers (-167 at PointsBet).

The Cardinals continue to flounder this season despite being among the favorites to win the NFC West this preseason. Arizona (3-5, 4-4) enters this one having lost three of four, including a 19-9 defeat at the hands of the Seahawks just three weeks ago.

The Seahawks topped another surprise team, the New York Giants, last week, forcing a pair of turnovers and limiting the Giants’ top-flight rushing attack to a season-low 78 yards on the ground. Seattle held the Cardinals to a season-low 171 net passing yards during their Week 6 tilt and forced Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray to cough up the ball twice. The Seahawks will need to be opportunistic on defense once again to grab this victory. Seattle ranks fourth in the league in takeaways (14).

Arizona’s offense looks different now that DeAndre Hopkins has returned. He’s recorded 22 receptions, 262 yards, and one touchdown in his first two games back, which has made a huge difference in this Cardinals’ passing attack that has lost Marquise Brown. That said, Arizona’s defense has allowed 34 points in back-to-back weeks, so this game could very well be a shootout.

For NFL picks in Week 9, Seattle has won and covered in four of their last five, including three of their last four as the underdog. The Seahawks enter this one 6-2-1 against the spread in their last nine meetings in Arizona. The underdog is 12-3-1 against the spread, and the road team is 11-4-1 against the spread in the previous 16 games in this series.

Arizona has seen the Over-hit in each of its last two games with Hopkins back in the lineup, and the Seahawks saw the Over-hit in each of its last three road games. This trend supports the Over as an NFL picks Week 9 play. The last time these two teams played in Arizona, the final score was 38-30, plus-19 over the point total margin (49.0).

Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs Picks

Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs: Sunday, November 6 at 8:20 pm EST on NBC

This pivotal AFC matchup between the Tennessee Titans (5-2, 5-2 ATS) and Kansas City Chiefs (5-2, 3-4) stands as one of only two games between teams with winning records for NFL Week 9. The contest winner will either hold the second seed or be tied atop the AFC standings heading into the second half of the season. This is something of a revenge spot for the Chiefs, who were embarrassed by Tennessee 27-3 in a Week 7 loss last season.

The Titans have quietly positioned themselves near the top of the AFC standings once again, holding the AFC South division lead by more than two games. After an 0-2 start, Tennessee has reeled off five straight wins thanks primarily to Derrick Henry and a ground game averaging 158.6 rushing yards per game over that span.

Henry chewed up 219 yards in the Titans’ 17-10 win over the Houston Texans last week. That performance helped ease the burden of Tennessee starting rookie quarterback Malik Willis for the first time. Willis went just 6-for-10 passing with 55 yards and an interception. He only attempted one pass in the second half. If Willis has to start for Ryan Tannehill in this contest, the game script will likely dictate a far more involved effort from the first-year QB.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, dominated the San Francisco 49ers before their bye and look ready to make a run at the AFC top seed. Kansas City bottled up Henry the last time these teams met, allowing just 86 yards. The Titans leaned on wide receiver A.J. Brown for that win, but Brown’s now with the Eagles, and Tennessee lacks a true game-breaking receiver this season.

This season, Tennessee ranks in the top 10 in scoring defense, but they’ve mostly faced subpar offenses. The one time they matched up with an elite offense, the Titans surrendered 41 points to Buffalo. Something similar could take place this week, although the Under has hit more often than not in prime-time games this season (14-9-1). The Under has hit in the Titans’ last four games, making it a solid NFL picks Week 9 play.

Under head coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs enjoy a 20-3 record coming off a bye. Patrick Mahomes enters this one 17-7 straight up in prime time, with a 13-10-1 mark against the spread. Although the Chiefs sport a 4-10 ATS mark as double-digit favorites, Tennessee has failed to cover as a double-digit underdog in its last two tries.
