Dolphins vs Bills Predictions

Buffalo Bills @ Miami Dolphins: Sunday, September 25 at 1 pm ET on CBS

The Bills have been the most impressive team in the NFL through the first two weeks of the season, with two wins, over the defending Super Bowl champion Rams and 2021’s AFC #1 seed, the Tennessee Titans, by a combined score of 72-17. Josh Allen and the offense deserve most of the credit, as Allen is averaging over 300 yards per game, Stefon Diggs has 270 receiving yards and 4 TDs, and the running back duo of Devin Singletary and James Cook is averaging nearly five yards per carry. Every bit as impressively, though, is Buffalo’s defense which has wholly locked down two quality teams while also forcing seven turnovers.

However, the Dolphins should not be overlooked. Miami’s own 2-0 start has come via two different types of wins. In Week 1, it was the defense that dominated, holding the Patriots to just seven points. In Week 2’s wild comeback from a 35-14 deficit to claim a 42-38 road win over the Ravens, it was QB Tua Tagovailoa, who threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns, with 361 of those yards and four of the TDs going to the dynamite wide receiver duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. It was a game that may signal a turning point and a huge step forward for Miami’s young signal caller.

As well as the Dolphins have played thus far, the Bills are operating on another level on both sides of the ball and have dominated this matchup historically, with seven straight wins over the Dolphins and six of them by double digits. This trend is reflected in the Week 3 odds and plays into our NFL pick for Week 3, Buffalo to cover the 5.5-point spread on the road. We’re also backing the continuation of another recent trend. The Bills have scored a touchdown on their first possession of the game in Weeks 1 and 2, and will likely take an early lead in Miami.

Eagles vs Commanders Predictions

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Commanders: Sunday, September 25 at 1 pm ET on FOX

Preseason projections about the Eagles winning the NFC East are well on their way to coming true after a 2-0 start that’s seen them survive a potential Week 1 comeback in Detroit before cruising to a comfortable 24-7 home win over the Vikings on Monday night. The defense, which gave up 35 to the Lions in Week 1, has gotten mixed reviews, but Jalen Hurts’ continued development into one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the league is undeniable. Hurts has averaged 9.1 yards per pass, gaining 5.3 yards per carry (on 28 carries) and scoring three touchdowns on the ground. Of course, the addition of A.J. Brown, who’s caught 15 of 21 targets, for 224 yards, has undoubtedly helped.

Going on the road to face the Commanders in Week 3 will be tough. Washington endured a problematic first half last week, falling behind 22-0 at halftime against the Lions, before hitting their stride in the second half. Carson Wentz ultimately threw for 337 yards, and tossed touchdown passes to three different players, to bring the final score to a much more respectable 36-27. Washington’s skill position corps, which offered little last season outside of star wideout Terry McLaurin, now looks like a deep and talented group, with Curtis Samuel healthy and rookie Jahan Dotson looking capable of doing damage right away.

The NFL odds in Week 3 are perhaps underestimating the Commanders, especially at home. Wentz has the talent around him to score points against his former team. Even if the Washington defense can’t slow down Hurts and the Eagles offense, Wentz and company won’t just go away. Our NFL picks in Week 3 include the Commanders scoring enough points to keep the game within 6.5 points, with the two teams combining for at least six touchdowns.

Buccaneers vs Packers Predictions

Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sunday, September 25 at 4:25 pm ET on FOX

NFL fans should embrace the possibility that this game is potentially the last meeting between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. The Green Bay Packers will enter the game with a little bit of confidence after a 27-10 win over the Bears last week. However, with Davante Adams gone, Green Bay still lacks a go-to receiver (no receiver had more than three catches against the Bears) and instead had to lean on the running game, led by the running back tandem of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. They combined for 193 rushing yards against Chicago.

Brady and the Bucs have had some offensive issues during the first two weeks. Brady has completed 59% of his passes, while Tampa’s rushing attack is gaining 3.6 yards per carry. The Buccaneers will be without leading receiver Mike Evans, suspended for Week 3. On the bright side, the Tampa defense has carried the Bucs to 2-0, with 10 sacks, six takeaways, and 13 points allowed in two games.

The NFL odds in Week 3 are appropriately tight for this game. But, with the Bucs’ excellent defense playing at home for the first time this season and Green Bay’s offense not yet clicking, our NFL picks for Week 3 project Tampa to win this game by at least a field goal. At the same time, Rodgers and Brady are both simply too good and too experienced to not each lead a team to at least one touchdown in each half.
