Game 2 gave both sides something to work with. The Lakers doubled Durant relentlessly, forced nine turnovers, and held him to three second-half points. It was an effective blueprint, and Houston knows it. Coach Ime Udoka was direct in practice about what has to change. As he put it: "That's the pace I'm talking about. Any time you hold it or are stagnant, they get back and get set. Be aggressive out of that, especially when the bigs are up trapping." The plan is faster ball movement, fewer stagnant possessions, and quicker decisions when the Lakers go to their trap. The execution of that plan is the entire game tonight.
Alperen Sengun is central to this. He has averaged 22.0 points and 6.2 assists against the Lakers in three meetings this season, and Houston's offense runs through his post touches as the primary release valve against a trap-heavy defense. If Udoka's pace adjustments work, Sengun sees cleaner looks and higher playmaking volume. His last 10 games show assists trending up to 6.6 per game. That number should hold or climb tonight. On the other side, LeBron James absorbs Reaves' full offensive workload with no backup playmaker available. His last 10 games show assists already at 8.2 per game, trending up from his 7.2 season average, and that workload only increases in Houston.
Jabari Smith Jr. added a blunt note from Thursday practice: "Just because he's getting double teamed, we still need him to be KD, you know? There's still ways around it, and we got some fixes to the trapping of Durant." Internal pressure either sharpens a star or adds weight. Tonight answers that question. But with Durant's ankle uncertain and the Lakers' defensive blueprint already proven once, Houston's home floor and superior defensive rating give this game a clear lean from the opening minute.

The caveat is Durant. If his ankle is worse than advertised, the Rockets lose their primary offensive weapon and the margin tightens. The Lakers shoot 60.9% true shooting as a team and have the perimeter skill to stay competitive even short-handed. If even one role player finds a rhythm from outside, the cushion compresses. With that in mind, the Sengun assists prop remains the sharpest single play on the slate: it is grounded in season data, matchup history, and Houston's explicit game plan to run offense through his post touches. Everything else in this game flows from whether Sengun is distributing. If he is, the Rockets are in control and the spread takes care of itself.
