The biggest roster news does not involve a starter. Luguentz Dort was traded to Atlanta, removing OKC's established Jamal Murray assignment. Nuggets coach David Adelman acknowledged the shift plainly: "I'll be interested to see how they match up with him. Lu Dort's not there anymore. Obviously they have a lot of very, very capable defenders." Murray now faces unfamiliar coverage, and whether that becomes a Denver advantage depends on how quickly OKC's rotations adapt. On the Denver side, Julian Strawther is out with a knee injury, thinning a bench that already needs time to develop chemistry. DeMar DeRozan enters his 18th season in a reserve role alongside Marvin Bagley, Alpha Diallo, and Trevon Brazile. None of those combinations have been stress-tested in a real game.
OKC's answer to the Dort void at the rim is Aday Mara, the 7'3 rookie who made an immediate impression against the Spurs. Mark Daigneault was direct about what he saw: "His minutes weren't high tonight, but his impact was. We're only going to trust him more after seeing how he performed in such a high-level game." Mara blocked a Wembanyama alley-oop attempt in his debut. Jokic is a different challenge, but Daigneault is clearly building confidence in Mara as a credible paint presence against high-level scorers.
OKC's bench adds to the depth gap. Jared McCain scored 20 on 77.8% shooting in the opener, going 75% from three on seven catch-and-shoot attempts per game. Alex Caruso chipped in 9 on 75% shooting. Against a Denver bench that is still learning each other's tendencies on the fly, this disparity in second-unit production could be the game within the game.
Picks made October 22, 2026 at 06:47 AM ET. Odds shown reflect current market prices.
The clearest single bet is SGA Over 29.5 points at -133. His 32.0 season average, his 35.0 Denver-specific average over three games, and his role as the primary engine on a favored and controlling team make this a HIGH confidence play. The SGP connecting Thunder -7, Under 236.5, SGA Over 29.5, and Holmgren Over 1.5 blocks tells one coherent story. If OKC extends the lead in the third quarter as projected, all four legs benefit from the same game flow. Jalen Williams at +230 to stay Under 14.5 points is the best-priced value play on the board given his 0.0% drive conversion rate.
The honest caveat: Jokic is one of the two best two-way players alive, and Adelman is a sharp coach who will have his team prepared. Murray benefits from Dort's absence and may find clean looks from unfamiliar defenders early. If Denver tightens to within five at halftime, both the spread and the Under come under real pressure. Respect the variance, keep your unit sizes disciplined, and never treat any projection as a guarantee. For more picks, check out our NBA picks today and player props today.
Nuggets vs Thunder predictions: Model projects OKC 121-114. Best bet: SGA over 29.5 points at -133. Thunder -7 spread with Denver's new bench untested.
