The one thing worth addressing is Sánchez's last start. He surrendered 6 earned runs on 10 hits against Houston in six innings. For a pitcher with a sub-3.00 ERA across three seasons, that earned its own discussion. But context matters. Prior to that start he threw a seven-inning shutout against the Angels, and the start before that produced three earned in six against Atlanta. A 2.79 ERA over 30 starts does not happen by accident. One rough outing against a quality lineup is noise, not signal. He also has three 2026 appearances against Washington already logged: 5 innings and 2 earned, 5 innings and 5 earned, 5.1 innings and 1 earned. Sánchez knows this lineup.
Kent is a more serious structural problem. His last start against San Diego lasted 3 innings and produced 5 earned runs. Before that against Los Angeles: 5 innings, 3 earned, 4 walks. His one clean outing was a 7-inning gem against Miami, which is the outlier, not the template. Philadelphia scores 4.5 runs per game and went 41-33 away from Citizens Bank Park this season. That road offense against a pitcher who cannot find the zone is exactly the matchup that generates multi-run innings early and bullpen stress by the middle frames. Philadelphia has gone 10-0 against Washington over the last two full seasons, winning several of those games by wide margins.
Nationals Park offers no environmental distortion. A runs factor of 1.0 and a HR factor of 1.02 make this one of the most neutral settings in the league. No altitude, no quirky dimensions, no prevailing wind. What happens here is determined by the pitchers and the hitters, and right now that conversation is lopsided. Washington enters on a three-game win streak, all against the Angels, chasing their first four-game run since June. The momentum is real. The competition context is what it is.

The real caveat is Sánchez's last start. One ugly outing can be noise. It can also be the beginning of something. If he is carrying fatigue or a mechanical issue into this game, Washington's 24-21 record against left-handers and the current heat of Keibert Ruiz could keep this closer than the runline suggests. The Under at -127 is the thinner play given the line aligns with the directional model signal. Size both picks accordingly. The -1.5 is the primary bet here. Everything else is secondary exposure around the same core thesis.
