Castillo's command issues are the bigger wildcard in this MLB matchup. He lasted 4.2 innings against the Cubs on August 17, then was gone before completing the third inning against New York. His career numbers against Minnesota paint a grim picture: five, five, and seven earned runs in his last three starts against this lineup. Kremer at least gets six days of extended rest, which historically sharpens his command, and his strikeout numbers have actually trended upward in his last three outings: 5 Ks, then 6, then 7 against Baltimore. Whether that sequence holds against a Chicago lineup riding genuine momentum is the central question.
That momentum has a face, and his name is Tristan Peters. The White Sox rookie has homered in five consecutive games, tying both the franchise record and the MLB rookie record at once. Over that stretch he has slashed .556/.619/1.500 with nine RBIs. White Sox manager Will Venable said: "It's amazing. I don't know what words there are for what he's doing. Really, really special. Really cool to watch." Peters himself added, "That's crazy. I try not to get caught up too much in that, but obviously it's out there, and I've seen it and thought about it a little bit." Friday night he gets a shot at the outright record, on the road, in a divisional game, with first place on the line. Meanwhile, Minnesota will debut Walker Jenkins in center field in place of Byron Buxton, who is sitting with a right hip injury. Jenkins hit .335/.413/.607 in 44 Triple-A games this season, but major league pitching is a different test, and how quickly he adjusts will define this Twins offense in the early innings.
Target Field plays as a neutral park with run and home run factors both at 1.0, so the environment will not inflate or suppress what happens here. Both bullpens are functional: Chicago's relievers carry a 3.73 ERA and Minnesota's a 3.96 ERA. With both starters carrying legitimate early-exit risk, those pens are going to be tested deep into this game. Luke Keaschall offered the reset button for the Twins after their 1-5 road trip: "I think everybody is going to show up to the yard next game ready to go and not thinking, 'We just lost (on the road) and have to make up all these games.'" Maybe so. But the White Sox, sitting in first place with two straight wins and a player chasing history, are not interested in waiting.

The Kody Clemens home run at +350 is worth attention for bettors who follow batter-versus-pitcher data. Two home runs in 7 career PA against Castillo, a 2.171 OPS, and a pitcher surrendering 1.60 HR per 9 innings in 2026 is a genuine edge built on real evidence. Peters breaking the MLB rookie consecutive-game HR record is the story the broadcast will center on, and deservedly so. But from a pure betting standpoint, the Clemens matchup is the hidden angle the casual market is not pricing in. Variance in this game is real: neither starter is reliable, Jenkins' debut adds offensive uncertainty to the Twins, and Buxton's absence removes their most dangerous power threat. Play the props with confidence. Treat the moneyline and run line as lean-level plays only, and respect the fact that both bullpens can and likely will contain damage once the starting innings are done.
