Fedde has been quietly excellent in his last two outings, posting 0 ER in 4.0 IP against New York and 0 ER in 4.2 IP against the Cubs. He is not going deep into games, but he is keeping runs off the board. More important is what the Twins have done against him historically. Bell is 0-for-5 with a .000 OPS. Lee is 0-for-4. Kreidler is 0-for-2. Larnach is 2-for-13 for a .182 average and a .581 OPS across 13 career plate appearances. Buxton has gone 0-for in his last four plate appearances against Fedde, with a .000 OPS in both 2025 and 2026 samples. That is a pattern across multiple seasons, not a coincidence, and it matters more today because Buxton is unavailable with a back injury. Minnesota's most dangerous bat is watching from the clubhouse.
Ober presents a different picture entirely. His 2026 ERA is 4.49 across 108.1 innings, but he has allowed 18 home runs in that span, a rate of 1.49 per nine. His last three starts covered 5.0, 4.1, and 6.0 innings. He is not getting deep into games cleanly. His strikeout production has fallen sharply, from 191 punchouts in 178.2 innings in 2024 down to 74 through 108.1 innings this season. When his outings end before the sixth inning, he hands the ball to a bullpen operating with nine pitchers on the injured list. That structure can unravel quickly against a hot offense.
That offense belongs to Chicago. The White Sox arrive as division leaders at 71-63, winners of three straight, coming off back-to-back games where they scored 10 and 11 runs against Texas. Tristan Peters has been the engine of it all: 13-for-34 with 3 doubles and 5 home runs over his last 10 games, a 1.833 OPS in the last seven days. He has no career plate appearance data against Ober, so neither pitcher nor batter has a specific historical edge to exploit. Peters does have is current form, and he is facing a starter who has been surrendering home runs at a significant rate all season.
Picks made August 29, 2026 at 05:32 AM ET. Odds shown reflect current market prices.
The caveat worth naming: Fedde is not a shutdown arm. His 2026 ERA of 4.18 comes with 22 home runs allowed in 118.1 innings and a 1.39 WHIP. His recent zeros against Minnesota are meaningful, but Murakami has 29 home runs on the season and represents genuine power threat if anything catches the middle of the plate. That is the variance in this game. The pitching matchup favors Chicago, the bullpen depth favors Chicago, and the lineup momentum favors Chicago, but Fedde's profile leaves the door open for a Minnesota rally if he gets into trouble early. Bet the angle, respect the variance.
