Lodolo looked like a legitimate mid-rotation arm in 2025: 3.30 ERA, 1.76 BB/9. In 2026, that version has not shown up. His walk rate has nearly doubled to 3.82 BB/9, and his two starts against this exact Dodgers lineup have followed an identical script: 4.2 innings pitched, three or more earned runs allowed each time. Six days ago in Los Angeles, he went 4.2 IP with 3 ER and 6 strikeouts before getting the hook. Last August, same result: 4.2 IP with 4 ER in another LAD matchup. The Dodgers are patient, they rank among the top-five offenses in on-base percentage, and they run deep counts against pitchers who cannot locate secondaries. Lodolo's pitch efficiency collapses early against them, and Cincinnati's 4.66 ERA bullpen inherits the lead at the worst possible time.
Skubal operates on a different plane. His most recent start was 7.1 innings against this same Cincinnati lineup, surrendering 2 earned runs on elite command. His 1.55 BB/9 means he does not beat himself. Against a Cincinnati offense batting just .230 this season against left-handed pitching and posting a minus-145 run differential on the year, Skubal's ability to stay ahead in counts neutralizes Great American Ball Park's homer-friendly dimensions. GABP carries a 1.18 HR park factor, one of the three most favorable in baseball, and that is real risk for any pitcher. But Skubal's command limits the kinds of multi-baserunner jams that turn long balls into crooked-number innings.
The context reinforces the matchup data. Los Angeles has dropped two straight to Miami, but their 8-2 record over the last 10 games frames that skid as noise. More telling: the Dodgers have outscored the Reds 23-6 across the three meetings already played this month. This is the fourth Los Angeles-Cincinnati clash in September, and one team has been dominant at the plate while the other has been dominated on the mound. Six days of extended rest for Lodolo is noted, but rest does not cure an elevated walk rate against the most patient lineup in baseball.

The prop layer adds dimension. Hayes under 0.5 hits at -106 is the highest-confidence play on the board tonight, with a .148 season average, 0.154 OPS over his last seven days, and 0.473 career OPS against Skubal across 11 plate appearances all pointing the same direction. Lodolo over 4.5 strikeouts at +114 is plus-money off three consecutive clears regardless of outing length. And if you want a low-unit power swing, Muncy at +430 in one of baseball's best HR parks against a pitcher who has surrendered 17 home runs in 89.2 innings is a number worth a small ticket.
The honest caveat: Lodolo's extended rest could produce a sharper early outing than his recent track record suggests, and Cincinnati's 25-15 one-run record is a reminder this team knows how to stay close at home. If Lodolo steals three innings of two-run ball and the bullpen holds the line, the dynamics shift toward a closer game than the data projects. The edge here is real but not infinite.
