Burns enters in a bounce-back spot after the worst start of his 2026 season. Five earned runs in 3.2 innings against San Francisco on August 24 was ugly, but the context matters. He walked just one batter, which means his command held. One outlier start against a quality opponent does not erase a 14-3 record, a 2.77 ERA, and 164 strikeouts in 139.2 innings. His two prior outings: 8 K in 5.0 innings, 8 K in 7.0 scoreless innings. With six days of extended rest, he arrives here with full stuff and a clear reason to be sharp. His 10.56 K/9 in 2026 is among the best in the NL. This is a pitcher who has earned the benefit of one bad night.
Imanaga's surface numbers are harder to sell. He is 8-9 with a 3.78 ERA in 2026, and his last three starts lasted 2.0, 6.0, and 4.2 innings. The outing-length variance is real and it is the main reason bettors should keep their confidence calibrated. But the matchup-specific data is being buried under that noise. Against Cincinnati specifically in 2026, Imanaga has been dominant: 5.0 IP, 1 ER on July 10, and 6.0 IP, 1 ER on May 7. That is a 1.40 ERA across 11 innings against this exact lineup. Seven days of extended rest could sharpen his stuff further tonight.
Wrigley's park factors tilt toward the hitters (HR factor 1.10, runs factor 1.05), but today's wind blowing in from right field changes the equation. As Sports Betting Dime noted after Game 1, "The Reds outslugged the Cubs 10-8 Saturday, racking up 13 hits and four home runs, as Sal Stewart, Jose Trevino, and Tyler Stephenson all went deep." That was with different wind conditions. Wind in from right at Wrigley neutralizes fly-ball power, and both of these lineups carry their run-scoring potential on home runs and hard contact. In tonight's MLB rubber game, the park context tilts toward the pitchers in a way neither of the previous two games did.

The best angle is Burns in a bounce-back spot at plus money on the moneyline and with run-line insurance at +1.5. His 2026 resume is one of the strongest in the NL. One bad start against San Francisco in late August does not erase that, and at +106 you are getting a genuine ace at roughly even odds. If you want to layer in the props, Stewart's track record against Imanaga and Bleday's hitless career line against the Cubs lefty offer real edges at plus money. Keep sizing reasonable given the variance this series has already produced. Both offenses have shown they can score 10 or more runs in a single game. The Under is a lean, not a lock.
