On the other side, Miami Marlins righty Eury Pérez carries a 3.44 ERA in 2026 and has been durable, routinely logging 6 or more innings. Those numbers look legitimate across most of the league. But against Atlanta specifically, something different has happened every single time. Three career appearances, three outings surrendering 3 or more earned runs: 3 ER in 4.0 innings on April 13 of this year, 5 ER in 5.1 innings on August 7, 2025, and 3 ER in 4.2 innings on June 21, 2025. Same opponent. Same result. Three times. That is not a variance problem. That is a pattern, and it is the central fact of tonight's MLB card.
The BvP data explains why. Drake Baldwin has a .500 average and 2.125 OPS with 2 home runs in 8 career plate appearances against Pérez, with a 2.600 OPS in his 2025 sample and a 1.167 OPS in 2026. Ronald Acuña Jr. is at .500 with a 1.738 OPS in 7 career PA. Dominic Smith sits at .429 with a 1.089 OPS. Matt Olson is at .375 in 9 PA, posting a 1.000 OPS in his 2026 sample specifically. These are not marginal career edges built on one fortunate game. These hitters have consistently squared up Pérez across multiple seasons and multiple at-bats, and the numbers are staggering across the board.
Miami does have one credible counter. Otto Lopez is hitting .500 with a 1.056 OPS in 9 career plate appearances against Elder, with both his 2025 (1.000 OPS) and 2026 (1.167 OPS) samples trending upward. He leads the Marlins at .323 on the season and is the hitter most capable of disrupting Elder early. Elder also issued 4 walks in his Baltimore outing last month, a control issue worth flagging. But his April shutout of this same Miami club at this same park is the more directly relevant comparable, and Truist Park plays as a fully neutral run environment with a runs factor of 1.0. This game lives entirely on pitching quality and matchup dynamics.

The two clearest plays are Braves -1.5 at +162 and Baldwin Over 1.5 Total Bases at +110. Both are grounded in the same logic: Pérez is going to face damage against this lineup, and a team winning that matchup by 2 or more runs covers the spread. One caveat worth holding: Elder's walk rate has crept up, and if his command breaks down early, Pérez has shown he can go deep in games when he stays out of trouble. Otto Lopez (.500 OPS in 9 career PA against Elder) gives Miami a legitimate leadoff threat. This game is structured as an Atlanta win. It is not a guarantee.
