Fried is the bigger variable tonight. His 2.73 ERA in 118.2 innings is the best of his career, and he enters on 15 days of extended rest after shutting down Boston on September 30. But his personal situation introduces genuine uncertainty. His girlfriend is due to give birth around game time, and that could affect his availability or focus. That is not a knock on Fried as a competitor. It is a real-world factor the market cannot price cleanly. If he is scratched, the Yankees open a shorthanded bullpen in a must-win game at a 1.15 HR-factor park. Boone acknowledged the moment after Game 2: "We've got to get over it. We've responded all year to difficult times, and we've got to do that again. We've got to get ourselves up off the mat."
New York is also without Aaron Judge, their 40-home-run anchor, sidelined on the 10-day IL with a leg injury. Relievers Fernando Cruz and Kevin Castro are both on the 60-day IL. The bullpen depth behind Fried, or whoever takes the mound tonight, is thin. Tampa Bay, by contrast, has a fully rested bullpen with every arm available. Rays closer Bryan Baker captured the mood after Game 2: "To be able to play in front of these fans in this building and take a 2-0 series lead was exactly what we wanted, so it feels really good right now." That confidence has a structural foundation. Tampa Bay held New York to just 2 runs across the first 18 innings of this series.
The game is at Yankee Stadium, where the HR park factor sits at 1.15 and a short right-field porch rewards left-handed pull power. That environment cuts both ways. Fried's command is sharp enough to navigate it, but a bullpen-heavy game here tilts the run-scoring math toward the Over. The single most actionable asymmetry tonight is relief depth. Tampa Bay has it. New York does not.

For individual props, Grisham versus Martinez stands out as the highest-conviction bet on this slate. A career 1.917 OPS against today's starter, with a 2.083 OPS in 2026 specifically, is not a number you ignore in a playoff game. Ben Rice's plus-money total bases spot is the second-best value, backed by a 1.270 OPS against Martinez this year alone. The SGP ties the four most consistent threads together and builds an internally coherent structure: Fried strikes out Rays hitters, the total stays under, Tampa Bay covers, and Grisham gets his hit. Jonny DeLuca said it plainly before this series took the road: "I think it's sweet either way. Doesn't matter the clubhouse. Obviously, going over there, having the chance to do that would be pretty special." That is a team that believes it can close this out in New York tonight. The edge is on their side.
