The Denver Nuggets arrive in rough shape. They are 1-2 and just absorbed a 20-point blowout at Golden State on Monday. Through this early three-game sample, they rank 26th in net rating (-9.6) and 26th in pace (99.1). Small-sample caveats apply to everything at this point in the season, but the quarter-by-quarter execution has been hard to ignore: Denver beat writers note the Nuggets have won only 4 of 12 individual quarters all year. That inconsistency is exactly what a high-tempo New Orleans team will target. Murray said when asked why Golden State played harder than Denver on Monday: "It's just natural as a human being when you're 0-3. You're fighting for your life...It's not that we decided." That is not the mindset of a locked-in road favorite.
New Orleans is 0-3 and hardly a finished product. Their defense (118.2 DRTG in a small sample) has not been the anchor they need, and they lost the turnover battle 18-12 in Game 1, handing Jokic and Murray extra possessions that fueled the comeback. But their offense runs at a top-5 pace (104.4), they have two healthy stars in Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray, and the rest advantage entering tonight is meaningful: four days versus two.
The tactical storyline from Game 1 that the Pelicans must fix is Trey Murphy III. He logged 14 shots across the first three quarters and scored 26 points, then took only 3 combined shots in the fourth quarter and overtime. That late-game burial was a critical mistake. Denver's defensive coverage has been unsettled with multiple rookies in early duty and several wing defenders injured. Murphy, shooting 54.5% on catch-and-shoot threes against Denver this season (across this small current-season sample), should be the Pelicans' most aggressive weapon at every minute of this game.
Picks made October 28, 2026 at 07:03 AM ET. Odds shown reflect current market prices.
The best angle on this slate is the Pelicans +5.0 at -105, reinforced by the Murphy rebounds and Bey points props as individual plays or SGP legs. The rest edge is measurable, the market gap is real, and the Pelicans have the pace to keep Denver uncomfortable from the opening tip. The under at exactly the model number is a lean at best. Every pick here comes with appropriate caveats: this is three games into a long season, small samples are everywhere, and Jokic on a mission is the one factor that can make every projection irrelevant in a hurry. Manage your exposure accordingly.
