Everton arrive as the more complete side by every attacking metric. They generate 1.67 xG per game against Hull's 1.15, carry a positive xGD of +1.15 per game, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry have driven most of that creation. The problem is that Everton have not won away from home this season. Two draws, zero wins in their two away trips, and a goal output of just 0.5 per game on the road. David Moyes is also dealing with a fitness cloud over Vitalii Mykolenko heading into the trip, though his assessment was cautiously optimistic: "He's got a chance for Sunday, the extra day might help, we'll see." That wait-and-see tone feels like the right register for the whole fixture.
Hull have been punching above their weight in the most literal sense. Their xGA sits at 7.2 over five games, yet they have conceded just four. That is a 3.2-goal overperformance, and most of it sits with goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, who has made 17 saves across five matches at 3.4 per game. At home specifically, Hull have been immaculate: one win, one draw, zero goals conceded in two matches. Manager Sergej Jakirovic also gets his squad back in reasonable shape, noting before the match: "Morita came back, Brooke Norton-Cuffy came back also in the training sessions, and also Tim." Iroegbunam's return matters beyond fitness. He left Everton in the summer and will be playing with something to prove against them.
The wildcard in all of this is referee Michael Salisbury, who awards penalties at 0.47 per match against a league average of 0.24, ranking first among all Premier League officials. Hull have already conceded a penalty this season. With Everton pressing high into a Hull deep-block, the structural conditions for a foul in the box are exactly right. I have watched enough of these compact defensive setups to know that one mistimed challenge can change the entire shape of a result. This one has all the ingredients of a match decided by a single moment rather than a prolonged spell of dominance.

The best angles here are Everton on the moneyline at +122 and BTTS No at +110 as the clean two-pick combination. For those who want more, Matt Crooks to be carded at +190 is the HIGH confidence play on the slate and it stands alone regardless of result. I believe set pieces and individual bookings decide more Premier League matches than the analytics community gives them credit for, and in a game refereed by Michael Salisbury with a midfield that already has three yellows in three games, Crooks carded feels closer to a probability than a possibility. The caveat is always the same in fixtures like this: one penalty call, one set-piece header from Ajayi or Egan, and the entire narrative flips. The structural risk is real, and no pick in football is a certainty. Bet responsibly.
