Bournemouth arrive riding a confidence boost from a 3-0 Europa win over Sturm Graz midweek, rotating heavily before reverting to their domestic XI. James Hill, Adrien Truffert, Ryan Christie, and Rayan all come back in. The problem is Europa form means very little here. Bournemouth are winless in six Premier League matches (three draws, three defeats) and have not beaten Sunderland at home since 2015. I have watched this Bournemouth side closely this season. They create decent chances, generating 1.92 xG per game at home, but they are converting at a worrying rate and conceding more than the numbers say they should. The 5-1 defeat at Chelsea last time out in the league did real psychological damage, and you can see it in the way they are playing.
Sunderland arrive depleted but perhaps less fragile than their league record suggests. Thomas Meunier is ruled out with a hamstring injury, Dan Ballard is also out, and Wilson Isidor is doubtful after missing the Europa trip entirely. Le Bris described the knock as minor, noting there is a question over how much Isidor could feature. If he does not start, Brian Brobbey steps in, and that changes things. Brobbey has generated 0.65 xG per 90 minutes this season with three goals on 11 shots in five starts. He is a genuine threat. Here is the number that sharpens the picture: Sunderland score 1.7 goals per game away from home this season against just 0.3 in their own stadium. An away trip to Vitality may actually suit Le Bris's side better than most expect.
I expect a cagey, scrappy affair. Neither manager can afford to be beaten. Bournemouth will push at home but Sunderland have Granit Xhaka in their engine room, 14 key passes across six appearances at 2.3 per 90, the kind of player who can slow a game down and kill momentum when a side needs to protect a point. Set pieces will likely decide this if anything does. Our OddsIndex Score Predictor has it Bournemouth 1.5, Sunderland 1.0, but given how poorly both clubs convert in practice and the absences in Sunderland's backline, a 1-1 is the outcome I keep coming back to.

The best single bet on this card remains the Draw at +255. Near-true-value odds, a logical outcome, and a historical head-to-head pattern that backs it up. If you want downside protection, Sunderland +0.5 at -128 gives you the draw and an away win covered for a slightly lower return. Under 2.5 Goals at even money is the goals market value, Under 3.5 Cards at +120 is the cards market value, and both sit on the same defensive match narrative. Brian Brobbey's anytime goalscorer at +235 is worth a small unit if Isidor is confirmed out closer to kickoff. These are good bets in a match with genuine uncertainty, not certainties, so bet within your means and treat variance as part of the game.
