The Guardians (53-48) are coming off a 13-4 dismantling of these same Twins on Monday, Game 1 of this three-game set. Cleveland is 20-13 against left-handed pitching this season, and their right-handed bats have already solved Rojas in 2026. Brayan Rocchio is 3-for-4 with a 2.000 OPS in their 2026 matchups against him. Chase DeLauter is 2-for-4 with a 1.750 OPS and a home run. Travis Bazzana has a 1.167 OPS in 3 plate appearances. The Cleveland lineup is not guessing with Rojas. They know what they are getting, and it will not last long.
Minnesota (49-52) is skidding in the wrong direction. The Twins have lost three straight games, giving up 13, 10, and 6 runs in those contests. Their -33 run differential for the season is one of the worst marks in the American League. With Rojas projected to exit at or before the two-inning mark, Minnesota's 4.19 ERA bullpen will be asked to cover seven-plus innings against a Cleveland lineup that is playing with genuine momentum. Cleveland's bullpen, by comparison, carries a 3.31 ERA and is significantly deeper heading into this game.
Messick does come with a real caveat. He has walked 36 batters in 112.0 innings this season, and his strikeout totals have dropped sharply in his last three outings: 1 K in 6.0 IP versus Miami, 3 K in 5.0 IP versus Chicago, 5 K in 6.2 IP versus Texas. That is 9 total strikeouts across three starts. His stuff is not missing bats the way it was earlier this season. But a 2.73 ERA over 112 innings is not a mirage, and in his only 2026 start against this Minnesota lineup, he held them to 1 ER over 5.2 innings with 7 strikeouts. The extended rest adds a layer of uncertainty, but the overall picture still favors Messick to provide Cleveland with quality length.

The honest caveat is Messick's recent peripherals. His command has slipped, his strikeout totals have dropped, and an extended 11-day rest adds uncertainty about whether he comes out sharp or rusty. If Minnesota works counts, chips away, and keeps it close into the fifth inning, the -1.5 gets more dangerous. That variance is exactly why the run line at plus-money is the right bet instead of the moneyline at -172. You get the same Cleveland win, and you still profit if the margin widens. The edge does not care what sport you are watching. Rest, context, price, same formula, different field.
