The story on the Twins' side is Zebby Matthews and his dizzying recent form. Bleacher Nation put it plainly: "Zebby Matthews (9-10 with a 4.74 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 125 1/3 innings pitched) tries for his 10th victory when he makes the start for the Twins, his 23rd of the season." That 7.7 K/9 season rate is real, and his last start, 6 innings of scoreless ball with 8 strikeouts against the Yankees on September 16, was elite. But the two starts before that tell a different story: 2.1 innings and 5 runs in Detroit, then 5 innings and 4 runs in Chicago. The public is pricing him like the Yankees start was a signal. The sharps see the full pattern.
Oracle Park is the defining backdrop for this matchup. The park's 0.93 runs factor and 0.85 HR factor make it one of the most suppressive environments in the league. That matters specifically for Matthews, who has allowed 23 home runs in 125.1 innings in 2026, a 1.65 HR/9 rate among the highest for any starting pitcher. The cold wind off the bay at Oracle neutralizes his single biggest flaw. He won't escape a rough outing entirely, but the park actively shrinks his damage ceiling. The Giants' lineup adds little offensive pressure either, hitting .247 as a team with a .713 OPS and a 45-63 record against right-handed pitching. Bryce Eldridge is the one exception, posting a 1.001 OPS over the last 28 days and a 1.200 OPS in the last 7.
One name to watch on the Twins' side is Aaron Sabato. As the Star Tribune reported: "Six years after the Twins selected Aaron Sabato with their first-round pick in the 2020 MLB draft, he's headed to the big leagues." The 27-year-old first baseman arrives from AAA St. Paul with 25 HR and a .273 BA in 113 games. A fresh call-up with legitimate power is always worth tracking, even in a pitcher-friendly park. Minnesota enters 33-45 on the road and just 4-6 in their last 10. Both clubs are mathematically out of meaningful contention, making this a true dead-rubber affair where lineup motivation and late-game decisions carry extra unpredictability.

The Matthews Under 4.5 Ks is the most defensible player prop on the board. One elite start in New York does not override a pattern of extreme inconsistency, and Oracle Park is not a venue that generates high-strikeout conditions. Two of his last three starts finished under the number. The Brooks Lee Over 1.5 total bases rounds out the picture, targeting the Twins' best power hitter against a pitcher carrying an elevated home run rate. These picks are not in conflict. They build a coherent view of a tight game where the Giants stay competitive at home and Lee does damage regardless of outcome. The edge doesn't care what sport you're watching. Rest, context, price, same formula, different field.
Variance is real in baseball. One big inning flips every one of these plays. Manage your unit sizing carefully, especially on the Under at low confidence and the Whitcomb hit prop this late in the season. For the full slate, see our MLB picks today, NRFI picks, and player props.
Twins vs Giants predictions: Giants ML +104 at Oracle Park. Matthews' 1.65 HR/9 neutralized by a 0.85 HR factor. Giants +1.5 and Under 8.0 also in play.
