The overlooked half of this matchup deserves real credit. Nolan McLean, 25 years old and firmly in his team's long-term plans, has posted a 3.34 ERA with 135 strikeouts in 113.1 innings this season. His last three starts: 10 strikeouts in 6.0 scoreless innings at Philadelphia on July 19, 7 Ks in 6.0 scoreless innings against Boston on July 10, 5 Ks with 2 earned against Atlanta before that. As Mets president David Stearns said at the trade deadline: "We've got a group of young players and we've got some potential Hall of Famers, future Hall of Famers, that we view as our core." McLean belongs in that sentence.
McLean already handled this Dodgers lineup once. On April 14, he threw 7.0 innings, allowed 1 earned run, and punched out 8. Pages, Freeman, Ohtani, Hernández, Tucker, and Freeland all went 0-for-their-appearances that day. Their 2026 BvP numbers against him remain at or near 0.000 OPS in small samples. That is not noise. It is a pitcher who moves the ball and commands both sides well enough to neutralize a power lineup when he is on.
The broader context works against New York. Los Angeles enters at 66-38 on a three-game win streak, averaging 5.2 runs per game. The Mets sit at 43-61 with a minus-66 run differential, scoring 4.0 runs per game. Shohei Ohtani is managing knee soreness and Smith is out with a neck injury, pushing Dalton Rushing behind the plate. Citi Field mutes offense further, with a runs factor of 0.96 and a HR factor of 0.92. The one Mets bat that cuts through all of it is Francisco Lindor, who has posted a 1.750 OPS in 4 plate appearances against Yamamoto in 2026 and a .988 OPS over the last seven days. His bat is the Mets' clearest path to disrupting what shapes up as an ace duel decided by one or two swings.
Picks made July 25, 2026 at 05:37 AM ET. Odds shown reflect current market prices.
The prop I keep coming back to is Yamamoto Over 6.5 Ks at +102. Three starts against the Mets, three totals at or above seven. A lineup hitting .233 with multiple bats carrying 0.000 OPS against him in 2026. Getting plus money on that track record is real value, and it pairs naturally with the Dodgers -1.5 and the under in a same-game parlay that all tells the same story. McLean Over 6.5 Ks at +114 is the complementary play on the other side of the matchup, though Lindor is the one bat that can disrupt both pitchers' evening in a hurry.
