The offense he is walking into is the worst possible environment for a pitcher in this kind of collapse. Atlanta ranked 30th in MLB in June with 77 runs and 19 home runs. In July, the Braves have flipped to 1st in runs (96) and 2nd in home runs (27). As one Braves beat writer put it: "It appears the offense rebooted." That reboot is showing up in the individual numbers against this specific starter. Austin Riley carries a .556 average and 1.445 OPS across nine career plate appearances against Buehler, including a 1.666 OPS in his most recent 2025 exposure. Michael Harris II has gone .600 in six career plate appearances against Buehler with a 1.267 OPS, and his 2025 matchup alone produced a 2.000 OPS. Both players are currently scorching. Riley owns a 1.571 OPS over the last seven days. Harris II is at 1.201. These are not random power numbers. They are consistent career marks against a pitcher who, at 5.36 ERA in 2026, is making hittable pitches at an elevated rate and has already surrendered 12 home runs in 89 innings.
San Diego arrives in Atlanta with a 6-14 record over their last 20 games, hitting .228 as a team and scoring 4.1 runs per game. The 19-2 blowout of Kansas City two days ago looks like what it is: a favorable matchup against a struggling club, not evidence of a lineup transformation. Against right-handed pitching, the Padres are 37-40 on the season, and the bottom third of their order creates real problems. Jake Cronenworth is hitting .194. Freddy Fermin is at .159. Xander Bogaerts sits at .220. López has held Cronenworth to a .125 average and 0.425 OPS in ten career plate appearances, including a .167 OPS across his most recent six-PA sample in 2024. Even if Machado and Tatis Jr. generate some noise, the lineup lacks the depth to push a total past 9.5 against López and a bullpen carrying a 3.17 ERA.
Truist Park is a neutral environment with a slight home run factor of 1.02, essentially a wash in terms of scoring distortion. This game is going to be decided by what it looks like on paper: a hot, home lineup against a struggling road starter in tonight's MLB action.
Picks made July 21, 2026 at 05:44 AM ET. Odds shown reflect current market prices.
The best individual prop on the card is Austin Riley Over 1.5 total bases at +124. That is backed by a real career edge against a specific pitcher who is currently struggling broadly, combined with a hitter who is in peak form over the past seven days. The caveat worth noting: baseball is a one-game sample. Buehler has been wild enough that his outings can go sideways in any direction, and a two-inning hook could cap Atlanta's run total before they do serious damage. Bet within your range on the under, and lean into the run line and Riley prop where the structural data is clearest.
