The venue makes Gordon's situation more difficult, not easier. Coors Field carries a home run park factor of 1.2 and a runs factor of 1.25. It is the most HR-friendly ballpark in baseball, and it does not forgive pitchers who already surrender the long ball at elevated rates. Every hitter in the Padres lineup gets a boost here, and the two most dangerous individual threats have specific track records that back up the concern. Manny Machado is 7-for-a-small-sample but striking: a 2.171 career OPS against Gordon in seven plate appearances, with two home runs. In 2025 specifically across five plate appearances, that OPS was 2.600, with both homers coming in that window. Small sample, yes. But two home runs in seven chances against a pitcher who already struggles to suppress the long ball, now at the most HR-friendly park in baseball, is not a coincidence you dismiss.
Fernando Tatis Jr. brings different heat. He is carrying a 1.193 OPS over his last seven days and has batted .312 with 16 home runs in 52 games since the All-Star break. His career line against Gordon is 0-for-5 in 2025, which is a data point worth noting, but five plate appearances against a 5.55 ERA pitcher is a small sample with high variance. At his current level of play, Tatis is one of the hottest hitters in the sport. San Diego's lineup as a whole has won nine of its last ten games, and that kind of sustained offensive output is one of the strongest indicators available at this stage of the season.
This is the third game of a three-game set, which means bullpens on both sides have been worked. Colorado's bullpen ERA sits at 5.46, among the worst you'll find on any given day. San Diego's relievers are at 3.51, a meaningful gap that matters whenever the starter exits. Gordon has not made it deep into games lately, exiting after four or five innings in each of his last two starts. If that pattern holds today, the Padres will face a Colorado pen that has been leaned on hard all week and carries significantly more risk than San Diego's back end.

The contrarian case for Colorado deserves honest consideration. The Rockies broke an eight-game losing streak Wednesday with a dominant 9-3 win. Gordon did throw a nine-strikeout complete game against these same Padres in September 2025. Coors Field neutralizes some pitching advantages and can flip a game's narrative in one inning. Any game at altitude carries tail risk on both sides of the total, which is precisely why the Under 11.0 is a weak lean rather than a strong position. If Gordon commands his fastball early and the Colorado offense gets going, the Padres -1.5 is gone fast. Manage your exposure on the run-line accordingly, and resist sizing up the Under simply because it feels directionally obvious. The edge here is real but not overwhelming.
